Hello,

The would be my first post (Hello Everyone) and hope l have come to the right place full of advice and knowledge.

I inherited my Grandfather's 71 Impala Convertible which l put into dry storage for the last 7 years until l had room and time to work on it.

With that said, the vehicle is now home with a fresh battery, new fuel, pulled the plugs and oiled the cylinders. Now my question, the starter does not seem to make any noise at all.

There is power from the battery, power in the on position, l heard a relay click upon start position but nothing at all from the starter.

I wonder if anyone might have a wiring diagram so l can find the source/trigger wiring under the hood?

Thank you in advanced.

Check for power at the starter solenoid when you turn the key to "start". Keep in mind that in that vehicle, having the gear selector in any position but P and N it will not crank the engine.

If the neutral safety switch is not aligned properly or not working, you'll have the same issue.

Check for power.

Mercedes thank you for the reply. Do you know where l can find the source/trigger wire for the solenoid and where l can find it under the hood?

The power wire connected to the solenoid terminal is where you would pick up the voltage signal. If you need the wiring diagram, you can go to Alldatadiy.com and get the full thing.

Thank you very much for the wiring diagram. It was helpful enough for me to diagnois the safety neutrual switch faulty.

The vehicle now runs..

Glad you fixed it! The lack of any power at the starter solenoid is a signal that the ignition switch or neutral safety switch are at fault.
