Hi, I will have to reproduce a 7/16" dia torsion rod for the tailgate on a 65 impala wagon but am unsure which type of rod to buy with all the choices. I need about 6 ft in length. Once the choice has been made then I dont know if I should heat the spots to bend or cold bend . Then is cracking become a factor with a hardened rod if thats the right choice. What do you think?
thanks jim

The rods are spring steel and you cannot heat them to bend them. I believe they need to be in an annealed state while bending and then they are heat treated and tempered afterward.

Definitely spring steel. I wouldn't be messing with trying to heat and bend it into shape, either.

well after a lot of investigation it was evident I would have to find a used one and that I did. I found it out west of course, at CT'S ranch
