Hello, I am unsure about whether I should purchase 15"x6 or 15"×7 rims for my 62 impala. I am wanting a tire width up front about 8" and maybe a little wider in the rear. As tall as I can go, thinking around 28"? Any advice would be appreciated!

A nominally 8" wide radial by today's labeling is close to the p205. A p215 is about 8.5". A p215 x 15 x 75r is almost 28" in diameter.

Either the 6" or 7" wide rims you are considering should be just fine.

I totally agree.
On the 56 Corvette, I have 15x6 on the front and 15x7 on the rear. And 225-75/15 on all four. They are just fine.
Thus, 205 or 215 would be also fine.
