I know the heat situation is terrible in these cars, is there any kind of electric heater that can be added? I am willing to upgrade alternator to handle of course. My son has his heart set on driving one daily as his first ride.

The amount of power required to create a resistance heating grid is beyond what can be done off the shelf. It is also going to cost more than servicing the heater that was original to the vehicle.

ok, I'm trying to understand how the original heater works. the "doors" on the back of the pans on the bottom of the motor, what opens and closes them? I'm assuming they need closed to get heat? The heat & air knobs on the heater controls, do they push down toward the floor to turn the heat on?

I saw a Monza today, that had a Diesel heater installed. I think the name of the heater was Vevor. He said it came complete for about $140.

That means mounting a fuel tank for the diesel/kerosene somewhere and more fiddling.

I'd fix the factory system.

Those little heaters have the tank inside of them.
