Hello All,

I'm looking for suggestions before I get into it.
I have a 94 454 daily driver ... 60/100 miles per day that ran perfectly when I parked it in the driveway 10 years ago because fuel costs when up way high. I want to get it going and am looking for some suggestions on what to do before I start cranking it.
Yeah, new battery of course, maybe somehow drain the gas tank and put 5 gal of fresh premium in it, turn the engine with a breaker bar to get to the oil pumped up to pressure, maybe suck the fuel out of the fuel lines ...
Appreciate any suggestions.

Welcome to Chevytalk,

Check the throttle body, air cleaner housing, snorkel tube, and resonator assembly for rodent nests and clean them out carefully before doing anything else. Wouldn't hurt to give a thorough visual inspection for any rodent damage to wiring and hoses.

A cheap siphon bulb hose will help you get the old fuel out of the tank. No need to put fresh premium fuel in; regular is fine. The premium isn't of any benefit.

You won't get oil pressure cranking the engine by hand with a breaker bar, but you could pull the spark plugs and squirt some MMO down each hole and then rotate the engine with the breaker bar just to get some lube in the cylinders. You could then pull the fuel pump fuse and spin the engine over with the key for a short while as this will build oil pressure.

When you're ready to put the fuel pump fuse back in, if you can't get any fuel pressure, you may discover the fuel sitting that long destroyed the fuel pump or at minimum ate the rubber hose inside the tank that connects the pump to the sending unit.

If it starts but runs badly, your injectors may need cleaning. Depending on how bad they are.. some BG 44K in your fuel tank (follow the directions) may be fine. If it won't run.. you may need to send the injectors out for professional cleaning.

Do keep in mind with any fuel pump or injector issues that your '94 model 454 ('95 too) uses a higher pressure pump and injectors than earlier years. The fuel pressure spec is 26-32 psi. Don't let someone sell you parts for an earlier 454 as they run lower pressure (10-13 psi.)

You might consider this depending on your geographic location. If you are in a high and dry desert you can safely ignore it.

You should, however, consider changing ALL of the fluids if you are in a humid location due to condensation. That includes motor oil, transmission fluid or oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid,rear end.

It will be a lot easier to change them now than after you ruin something. It's a pay me now or pay me a lot more later situation.
