On my 396 Holley double Pumper. There is a gas filter on the line leading to carburetor. I've noticed this on several vehicles. Aren't the filters and the carburetor themselves adequate. Do I need this filter

An inline filter upstream of the fuel pump is best, but the filter that screws into the float bowl on Holley's is ok, and much better than the Rochester system of a filter behind an inlet nut that the hard line threads into.
Fun and games holding the inlet nut still while tightening the hard line and not having a leak.
A fuel hose section between the filter and the hard line like with Holley carbs makes things so much easier, and isn't subject to the vibration a direct hard line connection is.
