I've gotten some great help and advice on this forum on my '63 327 project which I just finished overhauling and building to its original 250 HP configuration. It had sat un-assembled since 1970. Well today I started it for the first time in 51 years! The engine lit right off and the cam break-in was uneventful. And no leaks! The water temperature and oil pressure were both perfect. The first run couldn't have gone better. After the break-in, I was able to idle it and check the dwell, confirm the timing and set the idle mixtures. What a sweet-running engine! I wanted to post a few pictures of it and a short video of it running but I couldn't get the video to post. Anyway, attached are a few pictures of the finished engine. Thanks again to all you guys who've helped me with this.
Jon

Thanks so much for all the compliments! They mean a lot coming from this group!

Dave - I've had to stop reading all your posts on your Impala build! They cause me to go immediately to the Hemmings classifieds and as much as I'd love to have a project car to put this in, I'm trying to get the hell out of California ASAP and I can't interrupt that with a new project right now. Hopefully that'll happen soon!

Great job, and I can't even remember 51 years ago. It is just a blur in time... Now that you have it running, and the cam is broken in, I would drain the oil, and put a new filter on. Then refill with break-in oil. I like to get the cam metal out of the engine as soon as possible.

Never argue with an idiot. He'll drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.

Great advice Junky. I used Lucas straight 30WT Break-In oil and Lucas zinc additive and thought I'd replace it with the same. Do you have any opinion on it?
