This car runs and drives and has a good engine. It was the 325hp 396 w/ 4 speed m21 I believe and 3.31 12 bolt. I don't know a lot about chevelles, more of an impala guy. But I like the looks of the 66 and I want another project now that my 67 Impala is almost done.

Just curious of a ballpark, I don't want to overpay. It does need a little body work and paint. the floors are solid, some rust in trunk but not terrible. It would basically need a total restore if one were to want that. Or it could probably be driven as is with some cleaning up.

Anything specific to look for on it?

67 Impala SS Convertible, 396, TH400, Factory AC, 12 bolt rear end,

Willing buyer, willing seller.

Rest assured that it will be a labor of love. You will never recover anything close to what you spend to get the car in order. Overpaying a bit on the vehicle is nothing compared to what you will pay fixing it up.

People fear change because it threatens what they know, or what they claim to know.

well sure. But I'd still like some idea what it is worth. I have restored a few cars and realize how much time and money is involved. I just like to get an idea of it's value, also like to know how hard it is to find certain parts. It may need a console, shifter, hvac control, etc. a few things like that. Its mostly complete. On my 67 convertible parts are scarce as it is not hugely popular and lots of 1 off parts..

if it's matching numbers 396, it adds ~ 35% to the value, but no different then any impala prices or other cars, it's a popular production car and it comes with options as rare as any $10k-$100k + avg sale $40k
here's one example, $$k by the time you finish it...> https://classiccars.com/listings/view/1208334 /1967...

I remember hearing people call a 396 a "boat anchor". Never understood that since it was the same engine as the 427 and 454 or 402. Different stroke, different bore, etc.

When you go to swap meets, be prepared to be entertained by all of the Elmer and Bob combinations who know everything about everything.

If you asked anyone to explain their position that the engine was a "boat anchor" and to cite any type of evidence, they'd be short on conversation.

This sounds remarkably similar to certain posters.

The 348 and 409 were called boat anchor by people who didn't know any better. The 396 was not called a boat anchor.

No, I recall an individual in Massillon Ohio at a swap meet make a remark about a Chevelle with a 396 and say, "396...boat anchor".
