All,
Not complaining, just seeking Sage advice.
Background
As I read through posts, invariably someone says - search the forum there are tons of posts on- . Usually from someone who has been here for years. I get their comment, they have been here long enough to know the answer IS in the forum.
The issue I am having is getting to the old stuff. The 500 limit coupled with older than 1year can sometimes get me back as far as 2014 and those posts have -search the forum it’s been covered-
At this time I am sifting through posts 2014 and older looking for information gold.
Is there a better way?

Welcome to CT.
At the top of Forum is a HELP site with explains the search functions. Use of "specific phrases in quotes" and " on any date" and "boolian" and specific forums will narrow your search path. Good luck.

Thanks for jumping in Dean.

Getting your search phrase down to something specific is the best thing you can shoot for. The search function will also not support 3 letter words as the lone phrase.

Can you share what it is you are looking for and I might be able to come up with a better method for you.

Welcome to CT.
At the top is a Forums tab and a HELP site which explains the search functions. Use of "specific" in quotes and "on any date" and "boolian" and specific forums will narrow your search path. Good luck.

Try using Google with your search terms, adding chevytalk after them.

When all else fails, just google your inquiry, and type in 'chevytalk' as the last word, it works for me if I'm having trouble finding help

Thanks for the reply’s,
They have helped with my thought process.

All, I should have stated in my first post, I had read and was following the information in the large red help section.

Dean 50,
With the date range options available I quickly hit the max 500 posts at around 2014, I am working on more targeted “specific phrase” and Boolean combinations. I will try targeted year group searches “2009” , “2009-2013” as part of my search and see if that works.

Tommy 49, 49 wip,
Google works well, that’s how I found this forum, just can’t seem to put the rite words together to get better results.

Tony,
At this time I am reading up on the Jaguar front end swap, I have found several good posts on builds -Bell air Kiwi, Drew 1987 - are a couple members posts that come readily to mind. I doubt I could ask a question about the swap that has not been covered over several different posts. Each post does have its gaps that are covered in other posts, just trying to get as complete a handle on the swap as possible.

So this is what I am running into.
All searches 49-54 Chevy forum
search
1 Jaguar+front+end+swap
2 Boolean
3 Search Subject only
4 One year and older
5 Posts search terms were in
Result 500 post oldest post March 2020

Change 3 to search body only
Result 500 posts oldest July 2020

Change 5 to show topics search term in
Result 268 posts oldest April 2016

Change 3 back to search subject only
Result 87 posts oldest February 2020

In this example I can get back to 2016
Mess with the search terms and I can get back to 2014.
In one of the 2014 posts a member posts on a thread, his search showed over 100 posts on the Jag going back to 2002.

So I know they are there, I just lack the skills to get to them.

There certainly is a wide range of options to search. I think by using the variety of suggestions given here you are in the best place to find historic data regarding your search.

Instead of searching one year or older try "on any date"

It’s the volume of posts that is the problem. I have yet figure out how to search a date range like 2002-2004. At this time I’m going page by page from oldest to newest. Time consuming, but I have time. If I find something buried that may be of use to some of the newer members, any issue If I give it a bump back to the top?

I tried a Google search using 1949 - 1954 Chevrolet Jaguar front suspension swap Chevytalk then clicked on show all results for the Chevytalk outcome and these were the results:
https://www.google.com/search?q=1949+-+1954+ chevro...

Sweet,
Wagonman100, thanks for the information, most of all how you phrased the search, that helps me to see how to be more precise with my searches.
If that is what everyone was getting at before, I just wasn’t getting it.

Glad it helped. That was pretty much what the others were saying to do. I thought the link might be helpful.
