Hi Donny. I have an AAW system in my 55 Chevy, and love it by the way. I do have the schematics SOMEWHERE, but I moved recently and still haven't found a lot of stuff, those included. I was monitoring the 12V input to the coil and am only getting 7ish volts when cranking. If I make it 12v while cranking, it fires right up and runs fine after I remove the 12V. I think it comes from the ign terminal on the switch and not the starter but want to make sure. I may post this in the electrical section as well. Thanks in advance.

Which harness do you have? Stock type or Classic Update?

Donnie, If my memory serves me correctly. The yellow wire is the 12 v to the positive side of the coil. This wire is connected to the outside connection on the starter solenoid. That provides 12 v during cranking and when the switch is returned to the run position the 12 volts are disconnected from the switch. Hope it helps.

I thought I would wire it like that, but I don't have a R terminal on the starter. This has been working so I don't know what has changed.

I figured out an easy way to do this, for me anyway. I took a normal 4 pin 12V relay and wired it in. Pins 85 and 86 are your pick or activate pins. One has to be ground, and the other goes to your starter wire. Polarity doesn't matter here because all you are doing is picking the relay. + voltage should come from the start position on the switch, or from the starter terminal on the starter. Pin 30 is your 12V input, which can be either switched, or constant (Battery). It won't drain the battery since it will only be used when the starter is active. 87 should go to the P or + side of the coil. When you engage the starter, the relay will pick and supply 12V to the coil. When you release the switch, relay opens, drop 12V to the coil and you are running on the reduced voltage. Of course, I strongly recommend fusing the 12V input to pin 30. Yeah coming off the R terminal on the starter, but mine and most high torque starters don't, so this is an easy solution.
