What's going on with this carb? No choke tower/plate... it doesn't look machined off. As you've probably surmised, I know next to nothing about Holleys.

The choke tower might have been machined off or maybe not.

From what we see here, it's a double pumper but what size is unknown.

Measure the main venturi size and the throttle bore size and post back. Then the cfm rating can be determined.

I don't have physical access to it, just pictures. if I blow the picture up, I do see some numbers on the metering blocks....6501 with a 3 underneath.

Thanks guys... that was enough information to help me find this article: https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/vacuum-vs-mech an...

It's probably not something I want since this article indicates a mechanical secondary (double pumper) is better on a lighter weight heavely modded car. I have a stock heavy car with highway gears, that probably should just get a well rebuilt Quadrajet.... no intake manifold swap either.

Sometimes, the LIST number is stamped on the tops of the metering blocks, like L4779, etc.

Removing the choke tower is a loser deal, it allows open element air filters to pass air directly over the venturi area, literally suctioning air out of the top of the carb.

One marginal fix is to block the front quarter of the open element filter off, so the air will not travel directly over the top of the carb.

That one screams "E-Bay carb, sell me".
