I had an issue with my 01 Silverado shortbox
v6. The rack belched out on both ends and at the
same time there was fluid leaking from the back of the pump.
I can replace the rack for about $100.

I have a new pump w/o reservoir from a Caprice.
The gasket set is the same for each pump and the
connections are virtually the same.
The 01 is not my main driver, just for errands and backup.

Are the internals different in these pumps

A pump for a standard Saginaw box is different than a pump for rack and pinion. Not sure if the Caprice had r and p.

Rockauto lists the same pump for 2wd and 4wd
Different pumps for lower end models vs higher end
I think it has something to do with computer controlled variable assist
OP go look at pumps and click the part number,there will be a list of vehicles that inter change but you have to look at all the pumps to get the full list of vehicles
