This has probably been around before but, I would like some ideas on installing a HD front bar on my 65 SS. What have u guys used? And since it runs thru the front frame horns, do the replacements fit the same?

I replaced mine with 1 1/8" from POL ( Performance On Line) and yes it went in the same location but had to relocate the bushing brackets over a little bit. Sure made a difference for mine...

I put an Addco 864 1-1/8" sway bar on mine. It makes a big difference in how the car drives. I had to drill 2 new holes for the frame brackets. A lower ball joint on one side has to be separated to get the bar into the frame holes.

I put mine in from the drivers side. I remember it being in the garage location with a wall on the passenger side and the drivers side open.

Last year I installed a 1 1/8" Hellwig front sway bar, also from the passenger side. Just had to turn the front wheels left to full-lock, and the old bar came out/new went in surprisingly easy. Very good instructions came with the kit. No fitment problems at all. And it did make a noticeable difference.

Thanks everyone, I see bars advertised but none of them looked like what my old stocker is, also wondering if one of the lower control arms had to be dropped to get it reinstalled, hence spring compressors, brake lines etc... now what about my old smishey power steering box? Ever buy a tighter one?

Control arms don't need to be dropped. Worst case pop the lower joint with the spring and shock still installed so you can swing the spindle out of the way. The shock should hold the spring, but if it concerns you keep a floor jack under the end of the arm.
