Hello all. I have a 68 C10 and my license plates are a bit worn out and in need of restoration. I not a fan of spending $350 and upwards to have someone else make my plates look good again so I will be straightening them out and then painting them.
I have looked all over the internet and truck forums to find the color for the numbers and letter but came up empty. Anyone out there restored there own 63-69 California black & yellow/gold'esh license plates on there trucks. any help would be great.
Thanks; 49erman

ONLY wash a plate, take to big store and match with a spray can top. Try a model/hobby shop.

Washing my plates "wont" fix them, needing re painting and metal work. The Yellow/gold'ish tone color Doesn't come in a spray can from anyone. Hobby Shops are the thing of the PAST kids now days are into electronic games more then putting a model car or plain together with glue and painting with Testers paint.

The reason I posted only wash was to match the color rather look for match after working the metal, sanding/scratch pad etc.

You need to use 1-Shot sign paint: https://www.1shot.com/One-Shot/colors/Lette ring-Enamels.aspx
I think the "134L-Chrome Yellow" is the correct (or close) color for the letters.

Actually I have 1 Shot's Color Chart and 132-L Lemon Yellow comes the closest as your suggestion of 134-L Chrome Yellow has too much Orange to the Color, not a match.

I found a recipe of two 1 Shot colors to mix together, one being 134-L Chrome Yellow mixed with 191-L Imitation Gold from a member at 67-72chevytrucks.com that combo doesn't work either. I have a good friend of mine that Paints for a Body Shop and those two colors won't make the proper color. People have suggested using Rust-Oleum Oil-base Enamel "School Bus Yellow or Sunburst yellow mix with Sunrise Red and this also has been said works Caterpillars Yellow.

Thee only persons that made and painted the Calif. license plates were Inmates/Prisoners at FOLSOM STATE PRISON,CA. They also had there own "Font SIZE" for the letters and numbers.

AS for your input of color 134-L Chrome Yellow its too Orange'ish. I have a sample of that color on next to the Original painted color and it is too Orange'ish, both pics I have is one outside other is inside and both show not a good match.

Somebody here will need to show/tell me how to insert pics as I have No clue what a "URL link" is and it seems as thats the only way to get pics downloaded. I think this site has changed as quite sometime ago I have put pics to a thread but think it had/has a size restriction.

Now I remember this forum is a "Pay As You Go or Pay As You Play" site, kinda feels like I'm back in Church and have to pay/give some Offerings to listen to someone that usually puts some asleep. JMO people.

You don't have to pay. You can put them on a hosting site and then show them in a post. Read the instructions I posted.
