Hello, my name is Andreas and i am writing from germany. I hope my english is not to bad to explain our situation. In the late 80s i bought a 1979 el camino. After fixing some engine problems it was running great for years and it was always fun to drive. After ten years in my hands it was given to my son. At some point and after so many years he decided to let the old and now a bit tired 231 V6 go. After a few month looking for an engine my son could buy a complete drivetrain out of a motorhome that was badly damaged by a tree. He was told that the engine is a 454 and that it was a new GM part with very low mileage. So he swapped it complete with the trans into the el camino. It was a lot of work and many things were to do to fit the big block. But now its all done and the car is running fine. We are at the point now to show the car to the german TÜV to get our registration corrected because of the other engine. Now the problems began. We found following numbers at the block: stamped on top of steering cover TB06XXZ9. We were told by the TÜV that this is a unknown engine code. Casted numbers at the block on the back driverside are 14015445. In the middle just below the dizzy is something that beginns with G 2 P then something that looks like a small star into a circle followed by three letters or numbers??? At the passenger side we read a H238. Is it eventually possible to identify our motor by these numbers? As i said before it is a big problem for us at this moment. We would be very happy if there is some help for us here. Our car is part of the family for over thirty years and we want to get it back on the road.

Many thanks and best regards

I don't know, but somebody on here does.

Wait a week or so, and if nobody answers up, post it in the "Performance" section as 454s are more common the.

I didn't notice the year, but I knew a guy that had one in an

The "TB0" is on the right front and stamped? "T" is the Tonawanda plant. The "B0" should be the Assembly month but I believe this is probably a '80's casting and I am not sure if B is for Feb or what. The "G2P" and star is the shift that cast the block. I believe the 2 may be '82 but again every few years GM changed up these sequence codes so???
You may try to find a Chevy by the numbers website or info online. What I have here is as far as I have been able to track it. Any chance you could contact the original owner of the motor or motorhome and get the VIN?
