This might be one of my dumber questtions but here goes. if i have the tranny out of the car, can i turn it upside down to change the pan gasket? will i lose any fluid?

Yes you can turn it upside down to change the gasket and yes you will still lose fluid. It will probably be best to drain the fluid first while it is upright so you can control the direction the fluid comes out somewhat.

Thanks Jay, this is good to know. I will drain it first so I can assess the fluid smell/color and change the filter while I’m at it.
