Camaro went to front steer in 1970, but from everything I can find they started coming standard with disc brakes that year as well. Nova went to front steer in 1974 and should have discs as well. But Monte Carlo was supposed to come standard with discs from the get-go and I have seen ones in the junkyard with front drum brakes.

I went to Rock Auto's site and for a 73 Camaro with the straight six engine, only rear drums are shown.
The front shows rotors that fit a variety of GM cars from the era.
My guess would be that someone used a drum brake setup to avoid the disc brake conversion.
People fear change because it threatens what they know, or what they claim to know. |
