I'm new to Cup series, Indy car and F1 fan. Starting looking into this series when they announced the Next Gen equipment.

I love when they make right turns as well.

Less walls more road.

I used to enjoy the Trans Am series. I'm not sure if that one still exists. This new gen car closely resembles those Trans Am cars. I never thought I'd be talking about a Nascar cup car having a diffuser.
The thing about this new gen car is there are enough changes that every team's notes are from this year are fairly useless. But it's the same for everyone. Even field, for a while.
Jr and Kelly have talked about making the move to the cup level and what better time than now with the new car?

Top of the hill left hander at turn 1 will be exciting to watch. That goes from 5 cars wide to about 2 wide.

That long back stretch with the tight left hander at the end is gonna rack 'em up. F1 cars get 200+ mph just before they slow to about 50 to make the first corner after the straight stretch.

I predict some mayhem. Set your DVR's boys.

Well it was a very wet weekend in Austin. I believe racing there in the dry would be entertaining. So far Harvick is the only one who has slammed Nascar for running there? Naturally. Chase was in the right spot when it counted.

Truex and Custer were adamant also, as they should have been. I thought the whole deal was an abomination myself.

In the future, they need to run the short course, or just plan on throwing the yellow or red flag when it's raining that hard.

Elliot's win should have an asterisk beside it.

Agreed. I would have called it too. The in camera views looking out Truex's windshield on that fast backstretch section say it all.

How many times have you had to slow down on the freeway at 60mph when it was pouring so hard you couldnt see 20 feet in front of you.

Lucky there were no serious injuries from that rearending going on.

Yes...Chase Elliotts win should have an asterisk next to it.

My thoughts:
- Probably not a good representation of how the Cup cars will run at COTA because of the heavy rain.
- The length of the course is fine.
- Don't run the race in heavy rain. If rain does not lighten up, postpone until next day.
- If driver's can't see driving at max speed, they need to slow down. At that point, it should be red-flagged.
- No asterisk by Elliot's name. Everyone raced under the same conditions.

The asterisk for the race winner wouldn't be because of Elliott, but because of the race. And it wasn't the course either - this could happen at any road course - just that it doesn't rain at Sonoma and they've been lucky at Watkins Glen. Now we've got tremendous more chances for rain with all these new to Nascar road courses.

I agree with you on the track length if the race is run in the dry - but look at what I said - short course or throw the flag if it's raining.

There may have been a strong financial disincentive for Nascar to postpone on Sunday and keep it all going thru Monday. They dont own that track, so they were paying for use of it. I imagine that was a pricey delay to ponder.
So they just ran it and called it after the big crash on the backstretch and all the heavy rain that came after it.

And then vacated on time.

I seriously doubt that was the situation, but I guess stranger things have happened. A 3 way agreement between COTA and SMI, and then SMI and
Nascar, with I'm sure dozens of lawyers. Surely there was a contingency for Monday.

Question, Rick --> what would the asterisk mean? It rained? It was rain shortened? They've raced in the rain before, just not a heavy rain.

Rain beyond the capability of the track and the cars, and botched by Nascar. How's that?
