I am in the process of changing the leaking pushrod cover gaskets on my 1931 sport coupe. While installing the cover I noticed that the new cork gaskets that are used around the spark plugs are holding the top of the cover away from the head. There are no screws used on the top of the cover that will help seal the gap. Has any gone through the trouble to determine the thickness of the cork gasket that is used around the spark plug holes that will let the top of the cover seal correctly? Any help will be appreciated.

When i replaced the one on my car i put a small bead of Permatex 2 along the bottom edge and partially up each side. this vastly reduced the leak/seepage of oil out and down the side of the engine. as for the corks, it is a trim and fit game, and really depends on the cover shape/condition. i would do one at a time, trim fit, trim fit till it fits. also validate the condition and fitment of the cover without the cork spark plug gaskets to make sure the cover is NOT warped or distorted.

Thanks for the help. I was going to replace the gasket this weekend this should help stop any future leaking.
