Hey,
Ok im new to the American made game. Used to play with the little Honda's years ago and then had kids and couldn't afford to play anymore.
Just got a 94 K3500 dually with a 454 and looking to annoy most people in the world.

My dream would be 700ish hp.

So really I have a huge amount to learn, and plan on building from the block up.

I would like a reliable running vehicle, not a daily driver but capable of running 400-500 mile road trips every so often.

So any thoughts you guys and gals have let me know.

That sounds like a fun project. I am pretty handy when it comes to fixing stuff that breaks. To build what your thinking about - I think I would start asking around for a good local engine builder. I suspect you will need some drivetrain tweeks to handle that kind of power. Good luck - shoot us an update now and then...

welcome to ct. depending on budget you may like to think stroker or supercharged. lots of homework will result in lots of grins, on your face. some may last forever.

To get 700 reliable hp with a 454TBI...the block is pretty much all you've going to use. ????

Does sound like a fun project. But what are your details/build plan to get to the 700hp mark?

If your starting with the block I would suggest making it a Vortec engine. Vortec heads already breath good and changing to the new direct injection does a bunch for seat of the pants power gains over the stock TBI. Changing the fuel pump to higher pressure will be required as well as ECM and some sensors. My 89 c1500 with 350 moved along ok but once I got a 98 the increase in power was amazing. They made the 454 Vortec so no problems. Next would probably be rear end gear ratio. Depending on what you will pull with it. Than you can play with cams, headers and getting the ECM custom tuned for the mechanical changes you make. From there would be forced air induction.
Have fun. Your off to a great adventure.
