Is there a secret to lock the door from the inside and then get out? I am able to lock it with the key, but I cannot figure out the correct procedure.

As you've discovered, you can only lock it by using the key.
Regard it as a bonus, you can't shut the door with the lock enabled inadvertently.

yes there is a secret... If you push the door handle down on the inside it will lock the door

Right, but it will not stay locked when you get out and shut the door. It unlocks. Then you lock with the key.

After pushing the lock button down, then hold the outside button (the one you press to open the door) while closing it....

Thank you for your response. The Chevy II does not have the button to push down in the drivers window surround. Rick_L has the correct answer. Can only lock with the key after you lock the passenger side and ge out of the drivers side.
