Aug of '18 we finally purchased our little piece of Texas here in the outskirts of Houston.

We'd been looking for a property with a big workshop (plus some other stuff my wife wanted.. :laugh : )

This place had a 30'x40' workshop with it's own 200A service, climate controlled, insulated and completely finished inside complete with 2 roll-up doors and a bathroom.

well right away my wife and son-in-law did this to me:

But I slowly fought back gaining ground a little bit, inch by inch at a time.... then the first workbench went up.

Then a second!

Then a third started to emerge from the rubble.....

The re-birth of a shop continues:

next thing you know the tools start to find their place after months and in some cases, years of dark neglected storage...

One by one they emerge from the pile and line up like old vets being called into battle once more..

...then just like that the paint department appeared. every spraycan, every mixing cup, filter, and paint gun accounted for in one place again!

Inspired by my 8th grade shop teacher I built this lumber caddy to safely store wood for projects keeping them mobile for easy unloading and convenient access while building things.

The fun goes on..

I built shelves to put what little "garagey" things that I actually have in the shop. And the compressor comes on line!!

With a functioning shop starting to develop, I was able to build this hobby tool chest to better organize space on that part of the workshop.

A home-built fishing pole minder goes in....
ishing pole minder goes in....

With the addition of the long missing table saw from storage, building shelves is a breeze! Bins go in, banners & airplanes go up!

The bench lights get installed:

Ready for service!

As the clutter goes away, the shop becomes ready for service. But first - let there be light! phasing out the $5.00 disposable T-12 4 footers hung from chains and individually pigtailed to dedicated switched receptacles, with 8' T-8 strip fixtures hardwired and mounted directly to the ceiling. wow - what a difference THAT made!!

And just like that a wood shop appears! (note: those folding tables are just temporary until I get my carpenter's bench and glue table built.)

And here's the first piece of furniture I built in the new shop! A Buddhist shrine for my daughter-in-law.

Well that was around Christmas 2020 and there has been a few other projects since then since I'm finally back to work full time again!

Soon I'll be wrenching on my '66 C-20 again....

Nice!
Looks like you need a dust collection system next.

You are correct my friend! I've been shopping around but not liking prices.

I'm also planning to plumb in a compressed air system around the whole shop to eliminate the single long hose on the floor.

In the picture of the "bench lights get installed" you have a 240 squirrel cage blower on the table. If it has not been already assigned to a purpose it would make a excellent air mover for a dust collector. Some tubing, a bit of fab work and a large canister filter would get you started.

Your shop looks great.

Sam

Thanks Sam!

What a great idea - I wish I had thought of that before I gave it to my son-in-law. That was leftover spoils from the shop AC replacement. The original unit ran on R22 or something which had been outlawed and when the condenser unit failed we had to replace the whole system with R34? compatible equipment.

Maybe I can talk him out of it...........
