48 Chevy Coupe. does anyone know what rear springs will work from a wrecking yard? For a v8 swap

There’s really nothing that will interchange. Stock springs are about 1 3/4 inches wide, most later model springs are 2 1/2 inches wide. Your best bet and least hassle and a job that can get done in about 3 hours is to get the bolt-in rear spring kit from Chassis Engineering. Grind/drill out all the stock spring mounts, bolt the CE mounts into the same holes, spring center bolt is in the right place to center the wheels in the fenders. Kit comes with shocks and shock mounts, everything to change over. Had one in my ‘46 Chevy for 25 years, no issues.

Unless your springs are sagging or broken leaf the is no reason to change them for a V8 swap. A small block and late model trans mission weighs less that the original inline 6 cylinder and original trans. I have a 454/T400 in mine and have the original springs. Just add a ggos set of late model tube shocks. Get it on the road and drive it first then consider changing the springs, if needed.

I also used Chassi end spring kit when installing S-10 rear end for open drive and gear change. Quik and easy, I remeber they came in 2 diffren't ride heights.

48 sports coupe
63 C-10 long fleet

Been down most all the roads nowhere left to go??

Another option on these early Chevy spring packs is to use donor leafs from another 1.75" spring pack, but retain your main leaf. Since Chev and GM cars used the 1.75" springs for many decades, you can have more variety of leafs among all the various Chevy cars and trucks . Chevrolet and GM used 1.75" leaf spring width to at least 1959 trucks, and '57 cars. So that gives you more to choose from.
When I did the V8 swap with an 8.8" Ford posi in the back in my '39 Chev coupe I used front leaf pack springs from a '58 Chev truck. They are the same width, but are thicker and flatter, so it lowered the rear of my car also. I ended up using 3 leafs added to the existing main leaf. I also drilled a new centering pin hole back 2" to center my new axle in the fender radius better. They sit too far forward in stock location.
With 4 leaf springs total, I also welded 1"x 1.75" box tubing to the axle perches to further lower the rear anther inch.
The rear on my car sat up like a stink bug with stock springs!


Afterwards it sits down about 5" lower.
