While installing the RainGear wipers we had to get the radio out of the way. It never worked right so I never listened to it.

I got an original radio when I got the car a long time ago and thought maybe I would put it back in. I found the radio, hooked it to a battery and it lights up. I can't figure out how to connect it to the original speaker that I also have. There were two wires on the speaker. I figure one is ground and the other connects to the radio somewhere. The Accessories manual didn't help me much, I'm afraid. I was hoping maybe someone on here could give me guidance. It is a push button radio with five buttons and says "Airline" on the front. Both controls seem to work, but without a speaker it's hard to tell if the unit actually functions.

Lets see what the back of the radio looks like, should be fairly simple. Not many wires on those old ones.

There is a red wire that goes to the inside of the unit. I hooked that to the + size of a 12 volt battery. The gray/brown wire in the picture I hooked to the negative side of the battery.

The speaker had two wires soldered to it, but the solder broke. One wire is long, the other short and both are black.

that's the original 1956 radio?
A tube "12V6GT" was bad on the radio in my '56.
It was repaired and I set this radio on my work bench and connected it to a 12 volt battery and an antenna. It played and played and played.
I went to install it and it never worked again.
It appears the audio output is from the "12V6GT" tube.
This wiring schematic is for a 1956 Buick, the radio chassis are different but the electronic are the same.
The speaker is called "SP1" in the second picture. Hopefully you can find where the wires to the speaker come from.

I do not claim to be or ever have been an electronics technician, I am not a metallurgist, I am not a spelling be champion, I am not anything I have not covered.

I can't swear that this is the original radio. It came in a box of stuff, along with the speaker and some old car club magazines that was in the trunk when I bought the car.

Thanks for the schematic. I'll see if I can make sense of it and then probably decide to get this one converted to something more modern, get a new one altogether or just install the radio delete panel that was also in that box of stuff.
