My spare tire just slides around in my bed and I'd like to secure it. But, I don't want to install the poorly designed factory retaining bar.

Has anyone out there installed a cable type hoist used in more modern vehicles? It needs to mount to a center point, so a brace may need to be added.

My truck has a bed mat to keep the tire from sliding. Plus it's chained to a small jack. Good luck to anyone trying to run with 70 lbs of odd weight. Now, the bed is covered.

A mid '00s GM or '95-'01 Ram truck hoist can work. The GM one has a coiled spring holder. It allows movement so the wheel holder cable won't break. You could actually bolt it through the bed floor. All you need is long bolts. A crossmember is available on a SWB truck. It may be in a position to bolt on a hoist.
