Can anybody give me a part no. for a paper air filter element to replace the mesh element in my '49 Chev? The measurements look like 8" O.D., 6" I.D. and 1 1/2" tall. Anything close?
TY in advance!
Matt

Sounds like a standard 8" lawnmower filter by dimension. Oregon brand.

Is anything wrong with the original oil bath air filter? I love mine.

I could be wrong, but I believe, with the measurements Matt has provided, has the Standard Dry Element air filter that has the oiled metal gauze element and is trying to find a paper replacement for the gauze.

TY for the replies, folks. Yes, I'm trying to find a replacement for the gauze-mesh element, which doesn't look very efficient to me.

OK.Some people confuse the mesh filter with an oil bath filter. My 1951 has the MESH filter. To convert it to a paper filter is easy if you have just a little mechanical ability. The paper element will be FRAM CA-140 PL. This filter element fits perfect but stands a little taller. OK, Here's the tricky part. Saw off the stud that holds the top domed cover on the assembly and braze or solder an extended stud in its place. I used an inverted 1/4 inch bolt (1/4 x 20) DON'T MAKE IT TOO LONG OR IT WILL HIT THE HOOD WHEN YOU CLOSE IT. After I did mine, I put a small clump of clay on top of the extended stud to see that I had enough clearance. I am VERY happy with the results. bobt
