Hi All. A few years back I swapped my built 305 TBI into a 1978 El camino. Brought it right to life.
The TH350 transmission is tired though. I happen to have a 4l60 on hand from a v6.
I was wondering if it is too difficult of a swap.
I realize the tranny might not be as strong as one from a v8 but this is more of a sunday driver.
Am I correct in saying the 4l60 does not need a PCM?
It is not a 4l60E, Just a 4l60.
Thank you all.
Funds are kind of tight but would love to see it running this season

i would think that if there is no plug connector there is no tcm. adjustment of the cable may be important. is it a mechanical speedo? driveshaft may be shorter and x member may be different. shifter may also be different. i would toss in a shift kit while its out.

70 L camino, grampa engine, g-force 5 spd, road rage suspension. Pray first before all else fails.

I never did end up trying a 4l60. Owner swapped the TH350 for a rebuilt and still cannot drive it. Has been one problem after another. It feels to me like it stays in 2nd gear. Will not shift.
I have had governor apart, new vacuum modulator, verified 15hg vacuum to modulator. Have not resolved the issue. been over 2 years without being able to drive it

if it has a tv cable, proper adjustment is paramount. there are some brackets on the market that take the thinking out of adjusting. good luck.

It is actually finally up and driving. Rebuilt tranny was no good. New replacement is fine.
Thank you for responding.
