On my 1957 283 2 barrel it seems to take a lot of engine cranking to get engine to fire after sitting for a few months. Is this normal or is it time to rebuild fuel pump. Thanks

Very normal. My 57 6 banger takes a long time if left for 3-4 DAYS. Runs fine after gas gets to clear gas filter and carb.

The gas in the bowl evaporates and it takes a few 'bursts' from the starter (which cycles the fuel pump) to 're-fill' it to the point the engine starts getting gas.
