Good evening guys.
I ask you for help.
I need to decipher the Vin of my 59 chevrolet impala.
I am wondering if there is a platform in which to enter the codes and get the decoded result.
I have to do the paperwork for enrollment in Italy. Which in our country are really complicated and with an uncertain outcome.
So before the restoration of the car I absolutely have to know how the car was born to bring it back to its original state.
From the Vin, you understand the interior trim (color and model) and what type of engine it was originally fitted with (283 or 348). Moreover, I'm looking for the right and original engine and gearbox because the car comes from Cuba and has a Mopar 318 from a Dodge D200 with its steering column in the engine compartment.
All the information you will be able to give me will be welcome.
I can reciprocate with any favor you may need in Italy on European cars (I have a mega library with everything inside!)
Thank you all!

Try the VIN decoder at or post it here.

I believe the VIN or cowl tag will not determine whether you have a 283 or 348. The letter in the VIN will show a straight six cylinder or V8.

The Style 1819 means a V8 Impala four door sedan.
The Body - TA 9596 means Tarrytown, New York and it's number 9596 to come off the production line.

Trim 841 - Blue. Material type is: Cloth & Vinyl
Paint 912 - Harbor Blue

One minor note - the cowl tag may indicate a V8 car, but some L6 were stamped V8. I believe the VIN will confirm that it's a V8 car, but not specify which V8 (283 or 348).
