I learned of Verne's passing on the 14th of February.I met Verne in 1982 when he started our Jersey Late Greats Club.I considered him a friend and an absolute wealth of knowledge. We shared information often regarding our X Frame cars. After reaching out to fellow club members to let them know,I got a little emotional. We often fail to realize the special connection we all have within our hobby sometimes.I spoke with Verne in the fall and have been wanted to go up see him and his progress on his 62 SS.Like many of us,life gets in the way.Guess we're all guilty of that to some degree.I have learned to look at things a bit differently now.We see more and more of our car guys passing on over the years.Lets try not to get overly crazy and enjoy the hobby a little more.I've taken things a bit personal over the years and made a vow to stop doing it.Lets do our best to keep the hobby going and not be so motivated by greed and money. We chose the hobby because we love what we do and it's in our blood no matter what make, model, color, tastes,e ct.Verne was a TRUE and dedicated, knowledgeable car guy all his life just like many of us are.I know I am.Regardless of a few differences in opinions and how we did things, and yes,he made me a little crazy sometimes,But,I respected him.I joined the Jersey Late Greats in 1982 and started from there. He will be missed.RIP Verne!See you on the other side of the highway man! Very nice post Joe. Yes, Verne was a huge wealth of knowledge and will be sorely missed from a hobby standpoint. For those of us who were better acquainted with him and considered him a friend, we have lost even more. RIP my friend. Smooth driving to you.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear of Verne's passing. I never met him in person, but conversed with him via CT and certainly benefitted from his tremendous knowledge. I wasn't present at the time, but he saw my freshly built '58 Delray windowed SDL at the MCACN show about 10 years ago and was complimentary of what I had done to it. I have to say, I was tremendously proud that he was impressed by my work, what a compliment!
Rest in peace, Verne - and THANK YOU!

Pretty tough to fill this void. I sure hope his wife will find a way to publish what Verne had catalogged or maybe pass it on to someone. I know there are a couple guys who Verne held in high regard and knew their stuff. One of them is Carl1962. Sorry Carl , I dont mean to throw your name around but anyone being around here for any length of time will know that. There is another fellow who runs Impalas.net who Verne spoke of too. Sure can’t recall his name right now. It may be Warren Leunig ? Also our very own Paul Stensland has vast knowledge as well as many many others.. Verne dug into the intricacies of manufacturing and how the different plants differed as well as a billion other things. We ca’t replace him but fortunately we have some superior knowledge to help fill in.
