Just started working on a 1966 C20. Never worked on one of these old Chevy trucks so I'm prepared for a learning curve. I have been doing some research and found the engine in the truck is NOT the original one as is a 350 from a Buick (1973 GS)
Question: How do I find what engine and tranny came in this truck from factory (if there is a way to find out) I used the vin decoder from LMC and was able to verify the year, model and plant but nothing else.
The rear end looks original ;however, I see that the bracket that holds the stabilizing arm was relocated closer to the center of the differential housing. The little I have found is that is a Eaton HO52. (I think)
Found these numbers (whatever they mean) on the face of the pinion is 3766686 and D3 with a wheel looking sign, then on the right side of the face is the same number with the same wheel looking sign and other number can't quite make out. On the right side (top) is this number MH1104. If there is a way to decipher these numbers please let me know, or at least point me in the right direction. It would be deeply appreciated. I will include pics if they are allowed.
I have completely disassembled the truck. I cleaned, rust prevented and painted the frame. I want to keep it as original as possible since it has 39K original miles. Unfortunately sat for over 20 years.
I'm replacing the rear cab mounts. One was completely shot and will replace them with the C10 readily available. It was a question of economics. Refurbishing the C20 rear cab mounts was almost twice as much as a new set for C10's including new rubber mounts and hardware.
Any help or recommendations will be greatly appreciated and helpful.
