Hello
I’m looking to see what everyone is using for a intake manifold.
I have a 396 in my 65 Impala, I’m running the cast Holley intake with a Edelbrock carb.
I’m leaning towards the Edelbrock performer or the RPM.
What ya got ?

1968 C10 pick-up version of 396, has GM aluminum intake, got engine and transmission (396 and TH400) from a 1974 C10 pick-up, swapped into 1965 C10 that came with 283 small block from factory.
No idea what the factory aluminum intake came from, running Edelbrock Qjet 850 on it.

For a street machine, Edelbrock makes the AirGap! Its a very good intake for street and mild strip. Factory intake from that era don't flow very well.

It's being replaced with Edelbrock Pro flo 4 fuel injection.
It comes with a new single plane intake, since the intake only flows air (VS wet flow like a carb and needing dual plane), has 8 injectors at the ports, should maybe make better power.
Just hoping it runs really good.

I have a Performer RPM Air Gap intake on a 454 in a 65 with stock steel hood. No problem with hood clearance. Performer RPM and Performer RPM Air Gap are the same height, so either one will fit. I have a Holley 4150 style carb with a thick carb base gasket and a Moroso drop base air cleaner with a 14x3 K&N filter. You can actually fit a 14x3.5 filter but hood clearance will be tight.
Hope this helps.

My clearance is tight, but it works. I have a dropped air filter base,(that is a must) with a K&N 3" filter and K&N Air Flow top. (those tops have a crown to them)
A great trick for finding clearance, is to loosely make a "ball" out of aluminum foil and then carefully close your hood. Obviously, you can determine if you don't have enough clearance, but if your hood latches, and the aluminum ball is deformed, measure the remaining height of the ball. That will determine your clearance to the underside of hood.

Just be aware that some drop base air cleaners will not fit Edelbrock carbs.

Edelbrock's Air Gap has bosses next to the intake ports on the heads, so it can be drilled and fitted with injectors. I have seen a few in our Nova club here with tuned port injection on a Air Gap intake. They love it, they say they have better throttle response the Air Gap intake.
