I've always called them jet skis but that's like calling a Pepsi "coke" apparently they are called PWC, unless you have the Kawasaki Jet Ski, which probably is not made anymore.

Never ridden one, but thinking of getting 2, brand new because Sea Doo brand has coolant like a car not lake water.

Also Sea Doo has the cheapest entry level models called Spark, the 2 seater option 60 horsepower lists for $5499.00.

The reason for wanting them is summer time fun, here in the Phoenix area most know how hot summers are, last summer was the worst I have ever had in 15 years due to covid, working from home and doing a job looking at electronic copies of faxes all day everyday and filling out electronic forms from the faxes, glad to have a job and get to work from home, however it was so boring and isolated, nobody to talk to.

Get off work, nowhere to go, watch tv, look on phone, too hot to work on truck, basically work watch tv, sleep and repeat.

It's still going to be hot with these PWC "jet skis" but just get in the lake to cool off.

$5499.00 times 2 and a trailer, and all the fees a dealer will charge like buying new car will ad up taxes title registration etc, but sounds fun.

I think these might be more fun and affordable than a boat, never had one of those either.

Anybody here have any PWC?

Looked at used and most are not much cheaper than new, except old ratty faded out ones sitting outside for years from 1995 or older, probably not that good mechanical.

Looked into renting some and found a place that charges $1600.00 per day and you have to rent 2 PWC minimum, still have to go pick them up and use your car/truck to drive them to lake, $3200.00 to ride one day when you can buy one new for $5499.00?

Not sure why someone would pay that much for one day.

Are these things pretty fun?

Even though I have lived in the land of "10,000 lakes" I have only owned a canoe and a 14 ft fishing boat Both powered by "armstrong motors" (paddles n oars) They look like fun.

They do seem like they would be fun, they are 4 cycle engines and reviews say they sip fuel vs older 2 cycle engines.

Something else the more expensive option with 90 horsepower engine vs 60 hp, is the same exact engine, the 60 hp is just a mild tune on the computer, and one could have it reflashed for as low as $100.00 to go up to 110 hp.

Something to consider after it's out of warranty if you want/need more power.

This is not something Sea Doo mentions, it was someone on a video saying what can be done by upgrading the tune.

Watched a review where a guy had a 2017 model and he said it made his lower back hurt when riding in rough water.

Comments on youtube is you stand or hover over seat in rough conditions and not just sit on seat.

Kawasaki still makes Jet Skis: Kawasaki Jet Ski

Also, double check the rental rates you mention --> I think you misplaced the decimal: about $190-$200 per day for TWO Yamaha "Jet Skis" (lol). See here: AZ Power Toys

Looked again and found one that will rent 2 for $250.00 on a weekday, not bad at all.

Prices may go up in summer, you still pick them up and tow to lake then return.

Would try renting first to see what it's like.

Many, many years ago the fire department I worked at gave us some training on the ones they had for water rescue. It was fun but takes some time to get used to it. They won't turn unless under power and that kept getting me in trouble. Not much of a problem for recreational use but can be for water rescue. Of course I didn't make the water rescue team. Never been on one again.

I had jet ski's for many years!! Used to live right ON the Potomac River in WV. Just sold them last Summer when I moved away to Colorado.
BTW, everyone in my neighborhood referred to them as "jet ski's," not PWC's.
I was the neighborhood jet ski mechanic and serviced a couple of 2008 Seadoo's which were 3-cylinder 4-strokes and pretty much trouble free, although not as fast as Honda's or Yamaha's. Still lots of fun though!! Although they have anti-freeze running through the engine, they also need a water supply to cool the heat exchanger.
They're pretty simple to work on and the Seadoo's use a cannister oil filter that is easy to access when you change the oil at the end of each season!! They were a lot of fun and I'm sure going to miss them next Summer!!

They are a lot of fun once you get used to it. We always referred to them as snowmobiles on water. But of course most of you haven't been on either machines so you don't see the similarity. Boats are referred to as "holes in the water in which to poor money" jetski's aren't that bad. Another saying for boat ownership is "the 2 happiest days of a boat owner is the day they buy it and then the day they sell it". I think renting them is the answer if you don't live on water' Try renting for a season and see how much you use them. You can always buy them later. 60 hp is enough to have fun and get jollies on it. Be sure you wear eye protection because bugs really hurt at 40-50mph.

Also...The only thing that works on a boat is the owner.
