350 ho #6 cap "boot" is touching the fire wall. Motor is already moved 3/4 inches forward.
Is there a simple fix other than putting dent in the fire wall' ouch!!
can I shave any off the back top edge of the boot----maybe 1/16 "

I am assuming you have a big cap HEI.
If you trim the boot, the spark for that cylinder will short out to the firewall. HEI's are bad about that even with good boots and more clearance.

Maybe a little WD-40 inside the boot before it goes on, just a touch however. You don't really want to use an oil based product on rubber parts at it does dissolve rubber. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

You can get one of these caps. It arranges the wires to the side. All odd cylinders on the left side and even on the right.

"Crossfire cap" is a good name for that. It will have the spark going to the wrong cylinders (crossfire) in no time. Far worse than a short to the firewall.

There are 'small cap' distributors available. Simply add a separate coil (like GM did). I recommend an oil filled/cooled coil over and epoxy cooled type.
One of many:

No it won’t. It has the brass routed to go from where the rotor makes contact to the correct tower for the firing order encased in the plastic. We used one on my friend’s Nova that I converted to large cap HEI and had no room to route the wires around the cap as you normally would. Worked great. It neatens up the look of the wires as well.

If you are that close already and you are apparently concerned,
possibly replace that HEI with the other GM HEI that is smaller in diameter?
Or replace with one of the smaller diameter after market distributors?
But to be 3/4" forward you would think it should fit so I wonder if you have other possible issues.
Possible motor/trans mount issues and the engine /trans has dropped a bit?
