Hi there I have not long brought a Belair sports coupe, I took it for a warrant of fitness for the first time and it has failed on ‘ no high beam light on the dash, can someone tell me where this usually would be ? There is a bow tie on speedo that lights up red but stays on while the lights are on but they are saying I’m meant to have a blue high beam light, thanks

What year model? Right or left hand drive?
The bow tie on the instrument cluster lights up red, on US cars, when the high beam headlights are on. The bulb wire (light green) is connected to the headlight dimmer switch under the floor on a 55/56 and to the firewall connector on a left drive 57 and is spliced to the light green wire, in the harness, on a right drive.

Hi it’s a 1957 Belair sports coupe, it’s left hand drive, I believe it was imported around 6 or 7 years ago, thanks

Does the light stay on when you switch to low beam with the floor mounted dimmer button? If so, one of the instrument bulb sockets may be in the high beam location on the speedometer. Does one of the other dash lights go out when you change from high to low beam? They may be switched.
Link to instrument cluster.
The plastic bow tie lens may have to be changed to blue.

The bow tie should light up red when the high beams are on and go out when the high beams are turned off.

The red bow tie does stay on until ya turn the lights off, or if you turn the light switch to the right, the button on the floor does nothing to the bow tie light. Thanks

As mentioned, the high beam indicator bulb is swapped with one of the other instr4ument lights. Does one of the other instrument lights go out when you change to low beam?

As arcardon says, the high beam indicator bulb will have a green wire going to it. The instrument cluster bulbs should have grey wire going to them. Some one has the bulb sockets plugged in the wrong hole in the back of the instrument cluster.

If you have an instrument light in the high beam indicator socket it will dim to off with rotation of the headlight switch.
