I see Crane Cams wants you to use mineral spirits to clean their cams prior to installation. How about Brake Clean, which is what I already did, before I read! Do I need to start over, or what is the general consensus ?? I did use the Molly Lube supplied~

the reason you clean the cam before covering it with the moly lube is the waxy shipping protective coating must be removed prior to the moly application so the moly can soak into the metal micro surface to protect the cams wear surface, and to remove any micro trash that might be stuck to that protective waxy shipping protective coating that was used to prevent rust in storage.(that protective waxy anti rust coating is not an ideal lubricant')

So the idea its more just to get it good and clean, more than what you use. My concern was that they were saying "what to use" & I had used something else. I never lost a cam in the past, and always used whatever I had around (kerosene, carb cleaner, etc.)!

Your okay I use that too. Just make sure that it squeaky clean when you lube it before it goes in the block. Lube flat surface of the lifter that rests on the cam lobe!

same concept as buying a new gun. first thing you do is clean it. cosmolene is good for moisture barrier but not for use.

hey grumpyvette, while you're on the subject of assembly. whats your choice of assembly lube, assembly thread sealant , gasket cement/sealer ,and the like...lets say its engine assembly today...whats on your build bench?
and how about break-in oil?

I tried to run the above links & Grumpy's site says I have an account, however I forgot my password & the password reset doesn't seem to send the email so I can get it fixed - I did it twice~
