New to chevy talk recently purchased 48 fleetline has title current license plate but no vin plate inside. Only numbers found are on aftermarket stainless steel fire wall has a Briggs mfg co Detroit Michigan body tag that’s screwed on with Phillip heads the numbers on that plate match tittle. Is this a problem? Looked everywhere can’t find other tags or numbers on car or frame any advice appreciated thanks

Welcome to ChevyTalk!

I'm originally from the ONCE great city of Flint, Michigan. The birthplace of General Motors, where A C Spark Plug was formed and headquartered, where the first Corvettes were hand built, and where my 1955 Chevy was made.

Welcome to ChevyTalk. What state issued the title and what state are you registering the car? Googled Briggs nameplate and some things came up. Some states issue their own ID plates, depending on the circumstances.

If you are 100% SURE you did not buy a hot car you have several options
1) leave as is and re-title / tag in your name and have fun
2) find out what the location of the original plate was and
Have a new inverted tag made and install it . Many companies
provide this service.
3) go find a state policeman , pull him over and ask him if the
car is legal .... it’s kinda the. 420 thing to do and probably why
you missed the whole tag thing in the first place
Dan

Looking for any information on the Chevy One Ton Humpback Panel truck.... Anything would be helpfull

Back when your car was new, many states used the engine serial number for title/registration purposes. The serial number plate should be screwed to the passenger A pillar between the hinges, closer to the bottom hinge. There should be a data plate riveted to the firewall that has nothing to do with vin/serial number. Go to www.chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com for more info. There are no “hidden” vin’s or serial numbers on the frame or body.

I live in one of he most restrictive states in the USA & I bought a VIN plate from someone. They sent it to me with the last known VIN stamped on it. AAA looked at it and pushed it through. No problems

Thanks!

May or may not apply to a '48. On my '40 5h3 VIN tag is inside the car on the passenger floor area under the mat.
