Hello, regarding a 65 impala, Ive been looking at the reference section assy manual wiring diagrams, ex (12 d3) but cant locate the the wiring that leads to the console harness connection. Im sure its somewhere, can someone help.

I'm not sure what you're asking. The console plug would be part of the main dash harness. I don't think the assembly manual shows the under dash wiring because that was part of the body plant assembly.

Im converting a column shift to console shift and splicing into a non console dash harness. The backup, neutral safety is handled but I was hoping a wiring diagram showed where the bl/or and gray, ties in. I know that 1 is for courtesy, and the other is night lighting just dont know where to splice.

The physical layout shows on 12 C4 of the assembly manual. The wiring schematic shows on 12 D2 and 12 D3 (as you noted).
A console connector may be tied back to the underdash wiring harness with black tape on the passenger side of the radio.
The color scheme of the wires in the console echoes the wiring color you'll need to attach to in the dash harness. Grey (G), black with an orange stripe (B/OR) and black with a white stripe (B/W). The wiring diagram shows that all of these wires of similar color trace are interconnected so would work if accessible for tapping. There is also a solid black wire (B) that is grounded inside the console.

Jim,
I have 3spd SS also, uses auto trans console so I'm guessing its what you have. I've had my console out and Kevin is right re: gray, blk/orange, etc. I just never followed them up under the dash but be happy to crawl my aging butt under and have a look for you though under the carpet it may come up behind the heater box.
BTW, what are you using for floor shift console, 4spd set up?

Gray is dash lights, should be a grey wire someone near by (heater or radio) to splice into.
BL/OR is courtesy lights. On my convertible, there are under dash lights and this wire ran across the dash separate from the main harness. I'm not sure this exists on a coupe. You may have to go to the drivers side where the wire comes out of the fuse block and goes to the harness that eventually gets to the roof light. I think it would go through the under carpet ribbon.

So I took a look under my dash and console wiring or harness is not visibly exiting anywhere at carpet/firewall. From memory of having carpet, out it does not go to the ribbon harness under driver's seat. My best guess is if there's a connector it's up top of firewall behind and above heater box, hidden from view by radio or the wires simply splice into other existing wires. As _65 says, gray wire is for dash lights would run to heater control from gauge area. You may be able to trace it from there (that would light your clock & shift indicator if A/T). B/W for courtesy lamp run across dash side to side to switches in door jamb, B/O to under dash courtesy lamps & and to glove box light. Black ground wire from console clock grounds to console mount and does not go to dash

No, the console wiring does not go to the under carpet ribbon. It will be a connector under the dash up behind the radio. I was suggesting places to try and find the courtesy light wires depending on how the car is wired. B/O is a constant power for the courtesy lights so it's not run to the door switches. I forgot about the glove box light but that is the same power so the wire should be there.

3sp auto, I took a spare harness and stripped the matching color wires to extend to the console connection. Still waiting on the packard connector ( backorder) to terminate these wires.

Fun fact.....3 on the tree SS's got the auto trans console (sometimes hard to find correct parts when only asks M/T or A/T...assumes all M/Ts are 4spd)
but with a bonus extra ash tray where the 'Glide shifter would be, yes, ash tray because it was the 60's !!!

That was interesting, 3 speed trans. SS. As you stated we always assume 4-speed or Auto. I have seen a number of SS but never a 3 speed! Thanks for posting!
