I am thinking about buying a new 1500 Chevy truck for daily use and occasional towing. I would be towing a 24 foot enclosed trailer weighing 4200 lbs and my 59 Impala weighing 3600 lbs. I would option the truck with the 6.2 gas V8 and max towing option. Is my thinking correct or do I need to move up to a 2500? 95% of the time the truck would be a daily driver that is why I like a 1500 better. Comment and suggestions welcome.

I would go with the 1500 equipped as you planned. The 1500 will ride better and get better fuel economy, but requires premium fuel. I towed a 6000 lb car trailer over the Sierras with a 2015 Silverado 1500 4wd, 5.3, 6 speed and 3.42 axle. I was able to keep up with the truck speed on the hills. With the weight you are proposing, I think the 6.2 with max trailering is a great idea.

Should be no problem. I would get a weight distributing hitch to lessen the load on the suspension. You’ll be happier with the ride quality of the 1500 with no loads on the suspension.

You will be fine with a 1500,I have done 7500lbs with my 1500 and it handled it just fine
Get the factory tow package,the pressure based brake controllers are alot better then the aftermarket inertia ones
If you keep your tonque weight around 10-15% of the trailer weight a WD is not needed

There are some very good videos on youtube about trailer weight limits according you your truck’s rated capacities and about the importance of load distribution and sway control and how to mitigate them.

I tow as heavy as that occassionally with my 5.3. When I do, I wish I had the 6.2L, otherwise I am happy with the 5.3 for daily driving purposes.

Definitely get the factory trailer controller. This is not something that can be added afterwards, has to come from factory.

The best thing I did to my truck towing-wise was adding firestone airbags to keep it level. Our trucks have soft springs for a good ride unloaded. They squat good when loaded.

Most GM trucks now have self-leveling systems, either rear shocks or air bags. I know my 2003 Tahoe and 2014 Yukon had self-leveling rear shocks and my 2019 Yukon has self-leveling rear air bags.

And my 2014 and 2019 Yukon have StabiliTrak and Electronic Stability Control to help prevent and control out of control skids and wheel spin.

But anyone towing trailers are still advised to use trailer load distribution and sway control hitch systems.

Maybe the full size SUV's but not the GM trucks. I have a totally loaded 2021 Sierra Denali CC 4wd and no such option available. The reason the full size SUV's have that option is they are people haulers, for the most part. Also many of them are used for law enforcement and loaded down with extra gear.

Late to the party...I know
I have a 2013 6.2 w/max tow pkg. It pulls my toy hauler {5K+} no problem. WD sway control set up helps alot. Car on a trailer is not a problem, it pulls very well. Also hates to pass a gas station..
