I went to AutoZone to buy a short section of fuel line right before work, as the only customer and about 4 employees they ignored me, wasting time.

Buy hose clamps and guy cuts hose for me (I gave him my old piece for size and length needed), over 16 bucks, man things have gotten high.

I payed 5.49 per foot at 2 feet, only needed 2 1/2 inches.

Called and asked what minimum length of fuel line a customer can buy, one foot.

Also measured hose and it's 21 inches, I told manager he needs to teach that guy how to measure, and I feel like I got scammed somewhat.

Of course the manager is not there tomorrow, I told him nevermind, but that I want him to tell his employee to measure better, that a customer is upset for paying for more than they received, and also I only wanted to buy the minimum of one foot.

Am I over reacting or would others feel the same?

Hose clamps 3.99, hose 2@5.49 10.98, =14.97 tax 1.24= 16.21

Probably overcharged by around 6 dollars for extra foot and tax.

Sent Heather there after seeing if they have part # FU0516 in stock, going to trade parts and get difference.

If they give cash back, told her she can have it for her trouble, also sent her with my debit card.

Even though it seems like a small thing, it is symptomatic of bigger problems that exist in society today. And these problems exist and grow partially due to our own indifference to them. That worker more than likely knew that they didn’t give you enough line for what they charged and also probably knew that they were giving you more than the minimum amount that they could. Then if customers don’t correct the mistakes or make them do what they are supposed to do, it encourages them to continue with their poor work ethic. You even said it yourself that they were ignoring the only customer in the store.

I once went to order some countertops from Home Depot and the kitchen design people were all busy with customers, but there were two other employees there doing nothing in particular but couldn’t be bothered to ask me if I needed anything. They didn’t know I was there to talk to the kitchen design people. I went to the manager and explained the situation. He told me he would get one of the kitchen design people to help me. I told him no, that it was too late for that and I would order my counters from someone else.

Yep they don't care and it shows.

2006 I worked for a refrigeration company, and was fixing one of the ice cream machines in a tiny, very old Dairy Queen location in Mesa, AZ, probably 1940s, drive through with hose the car drives over and makes ding.

There was a customer and 2 people working there ignored him, I could see he was mad and finally left after about 5 minutes.

I said to them "hey you guys had a customer and he waited a long time and left"

One answered me "that's ok we get paid by the hour, not by the customer" his mannerisms and sarcasm were like Mateo on Superstore if anyone here watches.

I was thinking "wonder what would happen if the owner saw that?"

LOL clueless level 100 - so dumb they didn't understand that with no customers, there will soon be no hours.

Exactly. Our “shop manager” under the old owners would regularly turn away people wanting estimates. No customers, no money, no job. He also started a trend of the office people leaving early. They rotate and one leaves an hour early every day and on Fridays it’s two hours early. He has a lackadaisical attitude about doing the things he bothers to do properly. And it is infectious to the other office people. They forget to order parts, order wrong parts and miss things that are damaged on cars all the time. There are no repercussions, so they have no incentive to do better. They get paid the same no matter what, so they don’t care.
The new owners are too far the other way. They take on things that ultimately lose them money. Like giving a guy a break on an all over paint job because the guy says he has three more cars needing paint. He gets the cheap paint job and never brings in any other cars.

We live on a 15 house cul-de-sac; we've been here since 1986, and bought new. We were here a couple of years when the neighbor across the street was having a 2 car garage built in his back yard. The contractor could't make the measurements work for the placement of the garage, and it turned out, our street was put in 5 feet off center by the developer! Property setbacks are based on street center lines. It turns out, everyone on that guys side of the street has 5 feet LESS property in their back yards, and everyone on our side of the street has 5 feet MORE; 5 feet by 85 feet is a good amount, and I've always wondered if we/they are being taxed appropriately? I don't want to bring it to the attention of the city, and have to pay more taxes, and no one across the way seems to be too concerned they may be paying too much (???). We were originally county, and were annexed by the city about 6 years in. Property taxes are ridiculously expensive here; you'd think people would at least be concerned. Another story: I went to a local hardware store to get some re-bar stakes to secure some landscape timbers in place. The guy in the yard put them in the back of my truck, and I was counting them to make sure I got what I paid for; the guys asks what I'm doing? Then he says he gave me 4 extra, but if I was going to count them, he'd just take them back, and he did! So, I went back inside the store to have a conservation with the manager. He calls the guy into the store, and asks him if what I told him was true. Guy admits it, the store manager fires him on the spot, and tells him to clean out his locker, and to come back at the end of the week for his last check. Sometimes, you have to say something, sometimes you have to keep things to yourself. Another Dunn Lumber story about why I no longer go there; I call them Dunn-For Lumber, and don't know how they're still in business. I'd taken my complaint, and the "short" hose, to the manager, and would have made him/her aware of their employees "lax"; may not have changed anything, but then again............. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Its your local autozone screwing you over.

I get hoses to length all the time. odd ball measurements.

I have gotten them as short as 2 inches.

All they do is put the length and price per foot and adjust the total price according to what you actually got.

when asking Questions its related to van I own: 1987 GMC 3/4 ton G2500 vandura, V6, No AC, standard length. 3speed trans(no overdrive).

they are being taxed based on the measurements on paper plans, NOT real world measurements.

All the parts stores I go to have a minimum 1' length, messes up their inventory if they don't.

I don't think I have been screwed on the length as they have a tape measurer or markings on the counter. But bought some expensive vacuum hose when it was really fuel line, guy scanned the wrong barcode. Had already cut it at home before realizing what it was.

its making you buy more than you need is how they screw you now. and price is high to begin with. Who else you going to get it from. (lack of competition.

like in screw section they make you buy set few screws, but maybe you only need 1 or 5 but they only sell it in 3. NOTHING to do with inventory.

The screw was dirt cheap to make then they make you buy more than you need and charge you a large amount when your going to just throw away 2 out of 3 screws.

They can sell by weight flat rate. its fair and you pay for what you are actually going to use without over charging. fleet farm does that for the most common items. let you cut your own rope as well etc.
