I need some help here. I stumbled across a 1948 Fleetline (2 door) body with no frame. The frame was left outside for sand blasting and powder coating and was stolen as scrap metal. That being said, they are selling just the body and it is very straight. My question is, what frames will work under this body? I was told a 4 door Fleetline frame is the same from 1942 to 1948? Are there other options...maybe modern frames? Also, I know of a 1948 Pontiac Silver Streak (2 door) for sale. It is rough shape but the frame is good. The body looks the same as the Fleetline, minus some trim. I have loved the Fleetlines for years and own a 1952, but this 1948 is a good deal. I appreciate any help. Thank you.
Andy

Here are the frame measurements

Thought the Pontiac should be there, but cannot find it. I am not sure, but the Pontiac should be the same or very close.

Thank you Keith. I have compared both cars (in pictures) and they sure look the same. The only thing that looked different is the Silver Streak looks like the space between the rear of the front fender and the front of the rear fender looks shorter. But it could just be me. Thanks again.

Any Chevy passenger car frame from any model from ‘41 through ‘48 will work. All have the same wheel base. The convertible frames has a heavier duty x-member, but would work. I’m not sure the Pontiac frame would work as I believe crossmembers are different to fit a different floor shape. Doesn’t the Pontiac have coil springs? If so, the cross member for the coil springs could interfere with the Chevy trunk floor. Chevy’s are far more plentiful than Pontiacs, I’d find a bare frame somewhere.

Thank you lofat46. I will begin my search. I lost a lot of my mechanical know how after a Humvee rollover in the Middle East, so I am starting from scratch. But I am going to hit this and move forward. Again, thank you for your help.
Andy.

Thank you for all of the help. Here is another question. I did find a frame from a 1948 Sports Sedan (maybe it's called the Stylemaster or Fleetmaster....it has the 7 windows). I know the frame will fit, but will other body parts work on the 2 door Fleetline. Specifically the front and rear bumpers and the rear passenger fender? Is there somewhere that has a listing of what metal and glass is interchangeable among the body styles and years?
Thanks again for all of the help...I am new to all of this.

The front and rear fenders are the same, as are the bumpers and brackets.windhsields, rear glass, front & rear window trim and inside garnish moldings, dash, and vent windows & vent regulators are the same. Trunk lid should be the same as well as the hood. The four door floors will be the same if you need patches, Gas tank too. The the rocker moldings will fit. The only things you can’t use from the four door are the doors, door glass, window regulators (shorter than two door), seats. Find yourself a Chevrolet Body Manual for 1947 or 48. I found mine on eBay, it’s the Bible for working on those cars.

Thank you lofat46. I have found a "1946-1948 Body Manual Service and Construction" on Ebay. This sounds like the one you are talking about.

Glad you found it. I had no idea where to get it. I got it over 35 Years ago at the Towe Museum, when it was in Deer Lodge Montana.
