Hi folks. After a six month pause on my 64 Impala SS build I finally got back to it.
I purchased some parts for the car back in December and started to work.
I cleaned up all my side trim for the car and started to install it. The push in molding clips I purchased from Classic Industries do not work. They are too short to go through the sheet metal and will not fasten properly. I actually dented a molding strip trying to push them further into the body hole. I don't have any original clips to compare them too, but if I had to guess we are talking about a 32nd or 16th too short.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what brand fastener did you use? Thanks for your help.

Yup, aftermarket junk made in China. I got a package of trim clips from NCA 8yrs ago. They were too big, so I ground them down a little bit, but that was taking forever. I just put my 60 yr. old clips back on that I knew would fit. Too bad you didn't keep the originals.

Late yr model (Dec. 51 BelAir/ 52 trim), with a basically stock 67 Camaro SS350/295hp Turbo Fire Edelbrock 1405, Saginaw 4spd/355 geared 55/6 Chevy rear.2,1st place, and 1 top five award trophies so far

The car was a basket case headed to the crusher, I have no factory clips to look at.
Does anybody have a picture of a factory clip I could look at? It would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
