looking ahead here. wife and i been to a few car shows and we see a lot of dakota and dolphin gages . I want to keep a mechanical speedo , no digital readouts (including the odometer). I also want the tan gmc face because it will go with my eventual paint colors . I was going to have my originals rebuilt and refaced but I would like to see a higher mph scale . it came with the original brown face in 90mph (1951) ,the gmc only goes to 80 mph so that wont work . Does anyone make a speedometer scaled to say 100 or 120 mph that can be customized for the period correct appearance? id even take one (that will work with with mechanical th350 trans cable)out of something else and try to fit it in the housing but have someone make a custom face for it to match the gage style and "fonts". I have a buddy that owns a vinyl cutter and can custom print anything.

There are lots of people that make custom gauge faces and even custom gauges. Most of the refacing companies look like they just make stock replacements in different fonts and colors, so you’d still have the 80 mph speedo. There are other companies that do what looks like custom faces that change the range. I guess you would have to figure out which speedo gear in the trans you would need to affect the change and be sure the speedo needle is pointing at the correct number. You could probably have your friend make you one if you can do the math and figure out what the ratio change would be. Here is one company I found with a quick search:

those white faced woodwards look nice...BUT, they still have a digital odometer. fwiw, i want to keep the old mechanical rolling odo. idk , i'm wondering if i took apart a square body gauge cluster and convert the speedo over with a re-face. i will be running a th350 with cable ...what do you think of that idea? Jim carter sells some "custom 100 mph" speedo re-face . But i have yet to find the speedometer that it would go to that fits the bezel and dash hole. maybe i just need to buy a rebuilt speedo and the mph correction piece.

those are cool and all but im doing sbc and th350..no ecm.
i sent jim carter parts an email about what i plan on doing and see if they can give some advice or guidance with it. Might just get a gmc 90mph speedo, the 100 mph face kit and then one of those mph correction gizmos that goes on the trans, plug the cable in and it corrects it. it should look and work how i want .

Sorry, I was looking at the gauges themselves. I didn’t read the description, so I didn’t see they ran off of an ECM signal.
