OK..so i realize it's all of like 3 of us debating on this forum, but...

yesterdays Talledega TV coverage was all good until NBC chose NOT to cover the last 2 laps and move on to another scheduled show.

Granted, the race was a crash fest, that had many delays right up until the end, but that just sucks to be involved for hours...only to have the ending not covered.

Rant over.

Football is more important. And apparently the evening network news.

The end of the race WAS on NBCSN.

Its just the way they slide the coverage around. When you set the DVR, it doesnt know to chase it down on another channel. So by the time I went to watch it, the race was long over by the time I got to the end where they cut it off.

I ended up picking up my iPhone and asking Siri "who won todays Nascar Race at Talledega?"

She answered Denny Hamlin.

Would your DVR have recorded it if they hadn't switched channels? I think they were already a half hour over the scheduled time when they did switch.

ESPN used to do this to NHRA regularly, except that they would go to a pre-recorded program, which to me was inexcusable. At least Fox and FS1 have allowed the NHRA races to have continued coverage this year, in fact several times.

they move it due to other time slot commitments and understandable for the price of "air time".

Maybe if NASCAR went back to letting them race instead of changing the rules every week they'd get it over within the allotted time and have more exciting racing without 2 hrs of boredom before a 15 lap wreckfest!

I was listening on Sirius radio in my truck so heard the end. Had it DVRed to watch the last 50 laps when I got home, but found out it didn't get recorded. Listened to Sirius radio this morning the Nascar channel. Lots of opinions on the result.

All tv stations have allotted time slots for programming. NBC did nothing different than other stations. I realize not everyone can get the upper channels like NBCSN so the switch over doesn't work for them. My dvr doesn't follow a program to another channel, also bad, but I don't normally record races anymore anyway. Nascar tries to get the whole race in under green which I applaud. That race did run real long.
So do networks do the same with others sports events that run long or get off to a late start due to a rain delay, etc?

Yes they do. There's a pecking order to it. Some programs are lower on the pecking order, will get bumped by those higher. A prerecorded show following the one being shown lowers the probability a bunch. Live football would always bump a "lesser" sport, etc. The example of Fox letting NHRA stay on to completion that I gave was bumping prerecorded shows.

I'm one of the ones that quit commenting, lol, but I will say this. NBC did their fans wrong and everyone is talking about it, Nascar did their fans wrong (debatable) by letting Hamlin win and sending the 21 way back to 21st, and everyone is talking about it.

Anyone see a pattern here?

By the way, I am boycotting Nascar itself and will not support it in any way, shape or form. I won't even click on any of their sites anymore.

But, I still like racing, still like the tracks and still like most of the drivers.

Awkward position, ain't it.

Maaaaaaaaaany years NBC switched from a football game to a made for TV movie and you would have thought the world stopped spinning. Heidi or something like that I believe was the name of the movie. .

I am sure some of you remember this and have better facts if I don't remember correctly.

I'm about to dump Directv in favor of 100% streaming from the internet. So make it simple for me to find you Nascar...

You keep telling Nascar to do something. Fact is they did many years ago - they sold the broadcast rights to Fox and NBC. So you need to appeal to Fox and NBC for coverage that suits you as well as the streaming.

Again, they have no control over your request until the next TV contract comes up. Thing is, when that happens, they'll have little leverage on this issue in a declining market - their priority has to be to maximize their income from TV because it's far and away their biggest income source. So they'll say "yes sir, Mr. tv executive" to most anything the tv executive does.

Just start supporting other stuff like some of the stuff Lucas Oil is involved with. Try the Stadium Super Trucks. The worst part about them is that the races are too short. There is lots of fun to watch racing that beats NASCAR these days. There is good stuff that is more grass roots too.

NASCAR has simply lost touch with the fans they had and are unsuccessfully chasing new fans because they have no clue what new or old fans want.

Well stated.

I've also been enjoying Lucas Oil racing and have some high hopes for SRX.

SRX is off to an amazing start, good mix of drivers and a great pick for the tracks. I am looking forward to those races. I like the all short track picks. Tony knows that short tracks builds excitement and is racing that relates to fans and their own local tracks, something else NASCAR has forgotten about.
