Gonna replace the steering box & pitman arm on my 1994 C1500 Silverado ext.cab. 2wd 5.7L. 280,000mi. It's getting a bit sloppy. So, it looks like several part no's. available. I see Rockauto has a box "Lares" 1417 & pitman "ACDelco" 46C0045A. Anyone have good part numbers? Thanks for replies! Robert.

I would steer clear, no pun intended, of a remanufactured steering box. I had to replace two of them that were rebuilt in China and finally opted to buy a brand new one from the below online store:

https://www.buyautoparts.com/buynow/1994/Chevrolet ...

No core required and it works like a new one.

I agree on the gearbox. I have seen remans worse than ones that had 150k on them.
I would do a good inspection of the front end.
HAve someone turn wheel back and forth while you watch to see how far the wheel turns before the pitman arm turns

This is the company that I used after a very bad experience with the Lares remans. 3 in a row were no good! http://www.powersteering.com/power-steering-gearbo ... He had a core in stock, rebuilt it, and I sent mine back for the core charge refund. Great company with great service. Any time in the future that I need a power steering box repaired, I am going to use them!

Never argue with an idiot. He'll drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.

Good to know there's a source for rebuilds that aren't trash. There's far too many reports of useless rebuilds on steering boxes!

Never used them myself, but I have read good reviews about these guys,

Before condemning the steering box, be sure the rag joint is still in good shape. If you are not sure where that is, it is right where the steering shaft connects to the box. See pictures...
