Hi all I recently picked up a 95 Tahoe 4x4 with a 5.7 tbi off a coworker with a timing issue. Found that the chain was wore with a fair amount of slack which at 248k and being used for plowing was not a big surprise. Replaced the timing chain and gears and set the timing and got it running fine it started up several times after being shut off for a couple minutes. The problem is it sat 4 days went to start it and all it did was crank had to loosen and turn the dizzy until it finally would start again after tightened it back down making sure didn't bump it drove it around my friends yard (1/2 acre field) and it ran fine shut it off went in to eat came out 20 minutes later and the same thing crank only wouldn't fire unless the dizzy was moved. We have pulled the dizzy out put it to No 1 put dizzy back in (all with the advance wire unhooked)turned it slightly it starts and runs fine tighten it down shut it off and then started it ran let it sit more than 10 minutes and just cranks. Been stumped and not able to figure it out i don't want to turn it into parts but at the same time only paid $140 for it so don't want to dump a ton of cash in it for what it is and the miles body is solid a is underneath just one bad fender so fixing would be a plus. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The only suggestions I have is to mark the distributor body and intake to see if the distributor is physically moving somehow and to take actual timing readings before you shut the motor down and when you are trying to restart it to see if the timing is actually changing and that you actually have spark when trying to restart. I am getting the feeling that you may not have spark when trying to restart for some reason and messing with the distributor is somehow restoring it.

Sorry for late reply we got it figured out after borrowing the dizzy from my daily. Pick up coil was junk trip to local parts store and it now is timed and runs great aside from needing a set of plug wires thanks to mice.
