I have been trying to get original documents for my car. I tried Oshawa but could succeed with the '64 but not the '56 as I was informed that the '56 was built in the USA. My cowl tag has a prefix of T which I was informed that it is Tarrytown NY.Somebody interpreted the vocal tag and estimated the day of manufacture.
Can someone help please!

The cowl tag indicates where the body was built. The VIN tag indicates where the rest of the car was assembled. Is your vin tag welded or riveted? Riveted vin tags were used on cars sent to Bloomfield , NJ to be exported to assembly plants in other countries.
[QUOTE]The Chevrolet Export Boxing plant at Bloomfield does not make parts for any vehicles nor are they assembled there into complete vehicles. Unassembled parts for Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Buick passenger cars, for Chevrolet and G. M. C. truck and Cadillac body parts are packed and boxed in crates at the plant for shipment to General Motors assembly plants overseas.

Thank you very much for your response. The Cowl Tag is riveted.
The following is the response I received from one of car enthusiasts three years ago. I need verification of the details from somewhere where records are kept:

"1956 BEL AIR 4dr. HARDTOP RHD. PRODUCTION DETAILS
This app is a RHD car for export, some hardtops were CKD produced for export from Tarrytown, NY.This is a US style cowl tag and it would have the style, body number, trim, and ACC codes.
56-1039D is '56 BelAir Sport Sedan (4dr Hardtop). The 4dr Sport Sedan was produced at the Tarrytown Fisher Body plant. There were just over 16,500 made at that plant of that model, so your body would have been produced in June 1956, can't be more specific than that."

Thank you in advance.

All cowl tags were riveted. Export unassembled VIN tags were riveted and US VIN tags were welded. Link to VIN tag.

I don't think there is any documentation existing on your car other than what you already have (cowl tag and VIN tag).

This would be true of any 56 whether it was exported or not. The additional documentation started in the 60s in Canada, no US built 60s cars have any GM documentation either.

I was reading this with interest - my 210 4 door hardtop is also a RHD, also built in Tarrytown.
