I want a 4.11 or 4.56 Ring and Pinion. It has 28" dia. tires on the back. Some of the lower ratios on this differential 4.11 and 4.56 ,says that it will only go in a 3.23 or higher case. My ration is 2.75 so does that mean I can't put these lower gear ratio in my car or should I be looking at other Ring and Pinion sets.Or am I misunderstanding the whole thing.

I seen your post over at 3rd-Gen-dot-org. Someone there explains that different ratios require different series differential carriers. Knowing what series carrier you have is essential in order to get a gear set that fits.

This explains it with diagrams (which is better for me):

3rd Gen ten-bolts (7.5" and 7.625") aren't very strong. Consider this before taking to the track.

The only reason to run one is to retain the torque arm.

Beware if you have a locking differential of this vintage. These use cones instead of clutches to transfer torque. I don't think that just any 10-bolt carrier will swap into these housings.

I've had great response on these threads and I really want to thank you for your willingness to share your knowledge.
I'm thinking about trying a 4.11 thick cut gear. Here is where I'm at , I like fast but that doesn't necessary need to be out of the hole. I won't be going to any drag strips and street racing isn't really something that interests me either. Which in combination with my weak differential seems like a match.Am I missing something? can you share your thoughts with me on that.
