Making progress on the 57. We have plans to pull the 283/PG with 2 barrel. We currently have plans to install a 327 and 200-4R or 700-R4.
However, yesterday I learned of a local 265/PG set for sale that was running as a few months ago. Assuming it's in good shape, would this be a plug and play? This would be a quick and cheaper way to get the car on the road (and out of my garage :)).
I'm concerned about motor mounts, linkage, etc.
Thoughts?

Should be plug-and-play. Nothing was changed unless the carbs are different, the linkage may vary.

57 used the rams horn exhaust manifolds, while the 55-56 265's used a log manifold with the outlets on the ends. Your 57 rams horns will bolt on. Easier to do it while the engine is out of the car. If the engine/trans (265) are still connected, then all the kick-down linkage should be there. Can't see how 57 would be any different as long a both are 2 barrel engines. Some 2 barrels were Rochesters, some were Carters; who knows why they did that? I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Yes, the BASE V-8 with a standard transmission was a 2 barrel 265 (the 547 265 never xcame with an automatic transmission, or anything other than a 2 barrel carburetor; the same block casting/casting number was used for both the 265 and the 283 in 57. I have one of those blocks for my 265 build; it will accept a block mounted starter motor, so I can use one of my beefed aluminum Powerglides, without having to use the aftermarket, starter motor, adapter plate. I also have the last two aluminum Powerglide aftermarket bell-housings with built in side mounts that A-1 Racing Automatics marketed. They do actually have one left, but it is a display item only, been polished, and goes with them to SEMA and other shows. My question about the 57 265's, is did the 57 265 use rams horns exhaust manifolds, or mthe same as used in 55-56? No one I've ever asked could really answer that question. The OP seemed a little unfamiliar with the Tri-Five Chevrolet V-8's, hence my answer.

My brother bought a 57 stick with a 265 in 1963 when he got out of the Marines. It had the same exhaust as the 283s. It was that PRETTY yellow|green color.

Yes, the "Chartreuse" color. I have a 57 265 block that is that color. And now I know that rams horns were used on the 57 265's. So, it's all` a complete bolt-in (assuming the OP has the exhaust manifolds from the 283) for the OP; not sure why he'd want to go to a "smaller" CID, but maybe it's temporary. The 56 has different kickdown linkage for the powerglide that has a pivot plate that bolts under the coil mount on the intake manifold. As a complete assembly it will work as is. The shift linkage is the same. Only 55 is slightly different in that area.
