The plastic door pull snapped. This is the piece you pull to close the door. Seems to be attached by metal on both ends (to the door panel?) and one end has apparently rusted through.

I don't see these separately available, as they are for square bodies.

What's the fix, besides possibly buying an unneeded junkyard door panel? Remove the parts, clean up, and weld back together?

I think that year had different interior.
Is it held with 2 bolts? One on either side, toward the top of the door panel?

Yep just 88-89 with power windows, I believe. Plastic panel witha vinyl skin. 90 is first year for the velour/cloth style panels we're used to up through 94.

It's been a while since I messed with an early one like that but I believe there are little plastic covers that snap over the bolts that hold the pull.

I haven't been able to find a supplier for the pulls; I did look though. Sorry!

humor me here but I have been a caddy owner for quite awhile now. I know that the Deville up to 1996 used the same design.
I believe the Fleetwood did as well.
I am not sure if the measurement is the same but they sure look the same.
May not find your color but if you need something that works.
I loved those pulls, much better than the cheaper newer ones

If this was used on a Cadillac then those must have been dark days indeed at GM. This is nothing more than a cheap thin strap, not entirely sturdy feeling.

Rather than try to hotlink a stolen image here's the address:

https://static.cargurus.com/images/site/2019/06/1 1...

(I saw another example with rollup window cranks and it's the same design, fyi.)

At any rate I can see now that the pull attaches to the panel and that the attachment points are indeed bolts hidden behind small coverings.

So if this was only a 2-yr design I can understand why the world is not scrambling to offer a fix. Given that the end pieces are thankfully metal I will see about my original idea, to unbolt the busted end and see if welding back to the strap is an option.

Maybe hunt some stronger metal, cut it to length, drill the bolt holes - and have an auto trim shop wrap it in some kind of tough vinyl to match your door panel color. Shouldn't cost too much?

The ones on the Cadillacs were not cheap by any means. They are metal reinforced and are nice and thick. Not just a strap.
Why they went cheap on these is beyond me.

From looking at the Caddy interiors, the pull is a different design entirely, and much longer. You're talking about the type that hinges upward a little when you pull it, right?

No. Not a hinged type.
Is held in place with 2 screws, 1 at each end
Then has covers to go over each end.
I have 2 97 Caddys now so I will have to see if I have a spare from one of my older ones.
